What is Basic Theory Test?

Basic Theory Test (BTT) is the first test that a Singaporean needs to take in order to continue with the Final Theory Test (FTT) and then the Practical Driving Test to receive the driving licence.

The BTT is unlike the FTT in that BTT has no expiry date. The FTT expires in 2 years. Upon passing the BTT, you will be able to apply for a Provisional Driving Licence (PDL), and start your practical driving lessons.

Requirements to take the Basic Theory Test?

You need to be at least 18 years old. You should have good vision with or without spectacles, i.e. no colour blindness. Also, you should not be suffering from any physical inability or disease that can affect your driving ability.

How to register for Basic Theory Test?

You can book the test date from the respective driving schools:
You will have to register an account with the driving centre first, before selecting a date for your BTT and paying for it (about S$25).

Conversion of Foreign Driving Licence

You will need to take the BTT if you need to convert your foreign driving licence to a local one. See SPF's Driving in Singapore.
